Hardware Technician
Tenstorrent
Tenstorrent is leading the industry on cutting-edge AI technology, revolutionizing performance expectations, ease of use, and cost efficiency. With AI redefining the computing paradigm, solutions must evolve to unify innovations in software models, compilers, platforms, networking, and semiconductors. Our diverse team of technologists have developed a high performance RISC-V CPU from scratch, and share a passion for AI and a deep desire to build the best AI platform possible. We value collaboration, curiosity, and a commitment to solving hard problems. We are growing our team and looking for contributors of all seniorities.
We’re looking for a Hardware Technician to keep our labs, data centers, and engineering environments running smoothly. In this role, you’ll install, maintain, and repair server hardware and related equipment, helping expand and support our engineering services while minimizing downtime. You’ll partner closely with software developers, hardware engineers, IT, and Sites to make sure they have reliable access to the systems they need to build the future of AI.
This role is onsite, based out of Santa Clara, CA.
We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting.
Who You Are
- A hands-on technologist who enjoys working directly with servers, desktops, and PCIe boards, and isn’t intimidated by rapid change driven by R&D and prototyping.
- You have a solid foundation in computer architecture and operating systems and are comfortable using command-line shells to debug and manage systems.
- You take pride in doing things the right way from precise hardware installation to accurate documentation and adherence to safety standards.
- You communicate clearly with engineers, IT, and operations teams, and you’re comfortable asking questions, escalating risks, and documenting what you learn.
- You’re energized by repetitive tasks that can be automated, and you like using scripting or simple tools to make processes faster and more reliable over time.
What We Need
- Install, configure, and maintain servers, workstations, and peripheral devices in labs and data center environments.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware malfunctions using diagnostic tools and system logs, escalating when needed and driving issues to resolution.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and repairs (e.g., component swaps, firmware updates, re-cabling) to keep systems aligned with engineering demands.
- Use DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) tools to view, track, and update hardware assets by location, project, and owner.
- Provide hands-on technical support and basic end-user training on hardware functionality, safe handling, and best practices.
- Collaborate with IT, Sites, and Customer teams to resolve unique hardware and infrastructure issues in support of complex network and compute environments.
- Maintain clear online documentation for configurations, procedures, inventory changes, and incident history so others can understand and reuse your work.
What You Will Learn
- How to support cutting-edge AI hardware development across servers, desktops, and PCIe boards from early R&D through to commercial release.
- Best practices for data center operations, including DCIM usage, asset lifecycle management, and change control in fast-moving engineering environments.
- How to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams—IT, Sites, Customer, and engineering—to keep critical infrastructure available and performant.
- How to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement, and turn manual routines into reliable, scripted workflows.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Works primarily in office, engineering lab, and data center environments.
- May require lifting up to 55 lbs and working in confined or high-noise spaces.
- Must adhere to safety protocols and industry standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, OSHA), including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe equipment handling, lifting techniques, electrical hazard awareness, and ladder use.
